HYDROCHLORIC ACID

Since then, our supplier base has grown considerably, and now includes some of the largest hydrochloric acid producers in the United States. W. K. Merriman supplies 20° & 22° Baume hydrochloric acid to customers in the Eastern and Midwestern United States, and we are working to expand our customer base even further. We can provide technical grade acid in tank trucks or drums to meet your specifications.

Hydrochloric acid (muriatic acid) is an aqueous solution of hydrogen chloride (HCl). It is a highly corrosive solution, which emits a pungent and irritating odor at normal atmospheric temperature and pressure conditions. HCl will react with most metals to yield hydrogen. The hydrogen evolved is flammable and can form explosive mixtures in air.

Hydrochloric acid is a major industrial chemical. Some uses include the following:

• Pickling and cleaning of steel
• Manufacturing of inorganic and organic chemicals
• Acidizing of oil wells to stimulate production
• pH control of process effluents
• Production of organic dyes and pigments
• Production of sugars and starches
• Industrial cleaning
